PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

SEIZURE OF MONIES AT ADDIS ABABA BOLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FROM TRAVELLERS FOR FAILURE TO DECLARE

FOREIGN CURRENCIES ABOVE US$3,000

 

         

  1. This is to notify Nigerians that the Ethiopian Customs and Revenue Authority (ECRA) recently stepped-up seizure of foreign currencies and valuables in excess of $3,000 (three thousand Dollars) from passengers transiting Ethiopia without prior declaration of same to the host authorities.

 

  1. Kindly note that all passengers travelling to Ethiopia or transiting to other destinations, provided they have to leave the airport and subsequently return to board their connecting flights are required to declare Foreign Exchange and valuables in excess of $3,000.

 

  1. Transit passengers who do not wish to disclose monies in their possession can avail themselves of the use of safe deposit boxes placed at the transit areas of the Bole International Airport for safe keeping.

 

  1. Note that defaulting passengers are at the risk of forfeiting their monies, valuables and may also be liable for prosecution and imprisonment for money laundering, if convicted.

 

  1. You are advised to note and comply accordingly
